Governor Butch Otter and Congressman Bill Sali have been placed in a boxing ring by Dan Popkey.
Presenting the case that Billy Balboa popped Apollo Otter with a match-ending upper-cut at the recent GOP Big Tent event, Popkey argues that Kirk "Paulie" Sullivan was uncerimonioulsy dumped from the boxing team...and Apollo Otter ended up looking like an untrained and underprepared Tommy Gunn...
I just don't buy it.
Not that Dan's lying - that's not his style. Not that "Apollo" got spanked ('cause he did). Not even that Billy Balboa "chose off" the Governor (which I am certain was NOT his desire).
Like a partially-blind man calling the blow-by-blow action in the ring, Dan got it wrong...'cause he saw only the head and shoulders brawl of Sullivan and Semanko and mistakenly broadcasted those images onto cardboard cut-outs of Bill and Butch, as if they were below the belt hits. Not so.
Here's the deal...the Governor and the Congressman were not even fighting in the ring. Both men are friends of mine. It is not their style. Both men do not want 2008 to be a year when Idaho begins turning even a shade of purple, much less blue.
There was a fight, alright, but it was only Sullivan vs Semanko. And I don;t think it's over. Those in that Big Tent/North Idaho Boxing Audience may JUST want to continue their bar-fight out into the street....but not Butch and Bill.
Now, if Dan REALLY wants to cover an ensuing REAL street-fight, then he should be more accurate and follow the beer slaesmen and the peanut hawkers out onto the avenue of the scars...
Forget Rocky....if the GOP does spill out into the streets, then put on your finest Tombstone attire...and choose off who's gonna be whose huckleberry......
