Lee here just wanting to drop a short piece for Dennis. Now if we were at Sockeye on Cole&Ustick we could all share some brews & views like Sam Adams and the rest of the early fathers of our country. I like Samual Adams; a maverick, a brewer, a loser, a winner. Some called him the last Puritan. Some called him Sam the Malster when he lugged malt around Boston. I can identify with Mr. Adams.
<please read more about his life - if you like a great story you won't be disappointed>
Anyway - what is a Progressive Conservative? Dennis and I have kicked this around many times. Sometimes we get close to a definition, but most of the time we hunker down with a principle - BE.
JFK asked me; "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". This was spoken during his inaugural address to the nation and due to how powerful it was it has stuck for many years. He also spoke about being a citizen of this nation and of this world. I, as a Christian, have a third citizenship. I think often about my citizenship in all three areas.
In our definition of Progressive Conservative you have to piece that in.
You also have the three styles of political thought: Libertarian, Conservative, and Progressive (also called Liberal). Now I know that some will say there are many more isms, and there are, but I want to keep things somewhat simple. So being a pure neo-con or bleeding liberal or social this or that does not fit. This is another piece of BE.
So what else makes a Progressive Conservative? Well now we have to throw in a bit of Ronald Reagan, but don't go neo-con on me. Den and I will have to do a better write-up about Reagan, but I'll just quote what he said after the Challenger disaster; "The future doesn't belong to the fainthearted, it belongs to the brave."
In recent posts Dennis has mentioned many other things that connect us to the environment, to God, to politics, to family, to service to our fellow man. We'll have to kick it up some more in coming posts.
To find all the posts that Dennis has written about Progressive Conservative just do a search in the upper right corner.
You'll find many pieces to the pie of what it means to BE Progressive Conservative.

There is no Dark Side...only The Force (tee hee).
Think about Jesus' wild abandon to the needs of others. Amazing stuff. My call on Progressive Conservativism is exactly what Andr4ew just wrote....keeping the things that work and jettisoning those things that do not work.
Things ARE right because they "work".....God's economy of life and scale are amazing. he never changes...but we change as we move closer to Him.
Or at least that's what Yoda told me...ha!

Conservatism is progressive, its a whole different school of thought, it changes the status quo. Conservatism is progressing by preserving what works and fixing that which does not. Constantly in forward motion. Conservatism is progressive. Maybe having that connotation before conservative will help show people who really has the ideas and solutions to move the country forward. Conservatism is progressive, not liberalism.
