I've let the last 48 hours just percolate in my mind. Had a couple interesting NEW thoughts, given this past year of prognosticating with OLD thinking.
Having President-elect Obama's election has given hope to a number of minority people who have felt disenfranchised over these many elections for President. Forgetting about the poltical implications of new policy decisions, how encouraging it must be for Americans who are black to see themselves reflected in Barack Obama's success. For their little boys and girls to think "I could NOW be President of the US...or anything I want to be", is priceless.
And for Walt Minnick's election to Congress, I am again reminded of how Idahoans tend to choose what they believe is the person's philosophy, not the party's tagline. Walt Minnick won over just enough voters to win. Wasn't a landslide...wasn't even a secure, cushioned win...but it was a win.
And Idahoans should give Walt Minnick their full support as he enters into Congress. He's a good man and he has a great wife and family. Is he Bill Sali? Nope. And Idaho voters knew that going in.
Congressman-elect Minnick and President-elect Obama should be honored and supported as they go to Washington. In many, many ways they are DC outsiders, together. How interesting for Idaho to have a Dem Congressman at such a time like today.
Let's band together and help Walt take Idaho back to DC. Our greatest hope should be that Walt Minnick will be a voice for Idaho in this new Obama Administration.
And that's from a progressive conservative!

Thanks Rob and Bronco,
Good comments by both of you. Rob, your comment about Bill losing for the first time in all of his races is accurate. Having lost a nomination race for Congress, myself, I can tell you that it never is easy....and every loss has the seed of faith in the future, if the one who loses allows it to be there.
Let's support our federal delegation and look forward to a new day for all of us. That's the beauty of our founding fathers' vision...we get to start over every 2, 4 or 6 years.

Good Morning... I recieved a nice VM form Bill. He conveyed he was really busy. Talk about your understatement of the century.
I think people forget, Bill Sali has feelings. It's easy to get use to this wall that has been erected by both the campains and media. There was a great deal of gobbley-gook splattered by both sides in the last 2 months. I certainly hope Bill is given a little space and time to gather his thoughts...
I know this guy. I see him taking a breather, then getting far enough from the forest to see the trees, and then getting back on the preverbial horse again. May I point out? this is the first race he has ever lost. At 54 he is a young man.... sorta? (wink)
I am sure he recognizes where he would do some things different, still, I certainly don't see him finished with politics. At least I hope not.
As for Minnick. His victory was far from a solid win. (closer to a coin toss) I believe I am willing to give him a chance. Wait!
I don't live in his district. Whew....

Well put. Walt Minnick is not Bill Sali. Now we have two congressmen that will work and negotiate with all involved to create policy that is best for Idaho and the Nation.
