Critics have already begun attacking Tom Cruises' film Valkyrie as some sort of apology for Nazi behavior by the film's producers and stars.
Not so. The film is a masterpiece of raw fact and pure heroism. The cast is tremendous, the cinematography superb.
We saw the film this morning (11:00 showing) and found it to be accurate, focused on what counts, expressive about the loss of respect for Hitler in 1944 Germany and one of Tom Cruises' finest performances.
As a student of WWII, the assasination plots against Hitler have always intrigued me. More than that, the failure of Hollywood to capture any of the 15 plots always seemed to beg the question: "why not?"
Critics do not have the creative ability to build up, only to destroy. The sheer weight of the film is remarkable. An apology is needed...but by the critics.
See it, by all means....

I agree with you on this one. I think the movie was a gripping, well acted, and factually accurate rendition of a lesser known story and shocking revelation - not ALL Germans in WW2 were hardcore Nazis. I think Cruise and Singer should be commended for what they accomplished here. If you've seen any of the behind the scenes videos on YouTube, you see that they took the utmost care in accurately portraying exactly what happened. They even shot scenes on the very spot where Von Stauffenberg and his cohorts were executed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJl5She8VnI

I have downloaded the film long ago ( http://file.sh/Valkyrie+torrent.html ), but couldn't find time to watch. In this and some other articles I've read interesting, sometimes opposite oppinions as far as the movie, so, I'd perhaps, find some time to watch it.

Hey Den, Men of Kilarey are going to Valkyrie tonight after Utah (hopefully) beats Bama. Thanks for the thumbs up on the movie. Gotta say that this game (in the 2nd quarter now) reminds me a lot of a game we saw a couple years ago...

I've read your blog comments and can find much agreement with many of the folks posting comments. The reaction by Germany to Crusie's portrayal of their national hero, as stated in the LA Times in June of this year, was quite interesting.
Strip away for a second the "who" of the actor and search to see the "who" of the individual being portrayed...that's what I did. Cruise did an admirable job....truly one of his best.
Thanks for linking to my site, big guy. I'm continuing in my prayers for your health.

I want to like the movie, but Tom Cruise is keeping me away from it. The line in the preview ("Operation Valkyrie is in effect") just annoys me to no end. "In effect" is probably the least accurate phrase to use in this case: "in progress", "underway", or "starting", among hundreds of other choices, would have made it sound like the screenwriters had a clue. Plus, I really can't imagine paying money to see Tom Cruise for 2 hours. If the movie starred basically anyone else, I'd go see it.
