ESPN's coverage of Boise State's opening game against the Oregon Ducks ended in a Duck-punch by a player who had lost sight of the meaning of the game. It came from "out of the Blue"....
Listening to it on the radio last night did not convey to me the enormity of the player-on-player punch that landed Oregon's Blount out of the game for his Senior year. Watching it packs a wallop...
So, Oregon did what was correct. They did not suffer this fool lightly. And his hot-headed attitude was punished as it should have been.
Some are suggesting that BSU's Coach Petersen should suspend his own player for apparently taunting the Oregon player. Maybe so...the Coach must decide.
What I DO know is that the Ducks didn't duck this discipline issue and this terrible PR nightmare. Young Mr. Blount's behavior was watched by millions of people and hundreds of thousands of kid-athletes. He can now watch his team on ESPN next week...and dream of what might have been.
How sad for him, for his team mates and for his future. How good that his anger was displayed for all to see...and for him to now deal with. May he find a good counselor, for surely he needs one now and will need one in the future.

So, by "backstory", however sordid (and correct) it may be,you don't mean to excuse Blount's sucker punch, do you? That's not what you are saying is it?
Passing judgment...yeah, I did. Somebody had to, didn't they?
Guess who didn't? The Judge who never had Blount before him in court that next day, after being not-arrested...because hitting another person is an "assault".
Never heard that it happened? Because it didn't. Though it should have. Coach Pete was gracious in not pressing charges. Blount was lucky, being only asked to leave sports.
Try sucker-punching somebody who smarts off to you in a public setting...."hello Officer", will be your next words uttered.
And your response?

The BSU player deserved it; if not on the field then in the parking lot. He was out of line (and yes, so was Blount).
Go educate yourself with the backstory and comprehend the details before you go passing judgment based on what TV commentary and YouTube videos pre-digest and regurgitate into your mouth for you.
