Today has been the 11th of the month...all day.
Tonight, as my family and forever friends (Janine and KiKi) watched "Return to Me", Bonnie Hunt's now-classic romance film, I was once again touched by the tender plot -line of loss and gain.
As you may know, the main character, Bob, loses his bride in an auto accident - and her heart is transplanted. The recipient of the transplant, Grace, ends up later meeting Bob and they fall in love. Watching the death of Bob's wife on the screen touched me deeply.
He lost the love of his life. And still lived.
The 11th of the month means much to me. 8 months ago we lost our son, Nate. And 8 months later we are learning to love, lose and still live.
There was no heart transplant from Nate to anyone. There WAS a transplant of my heart over these many months...from a deeply broken heart to one of new-tenderness formed from deep pain.
How precious to watch this film, think of Nate and realize that life is moving forward. Slowly, but surely.
From broken to fixed, through many waves of tears.
