One year ago this month, a group of High School Juniors from the
Boise, ID area returned a long-lost WWII Army Helmet to the widow of
it's owner.
Sgt AJ Malone's bride of many years received his Helmet at her home in
Middletown, CT, amid TV lights, reporters and many family and friends.
But without the help of US Congressman Walt Minnick and US Airways' Executive Services Manager Carole Cloyd, the gift would never have been given nor received.
Rep. Minnick gave the kids 300,000 frequent flier miles and Mrs. Cloyd
made sure it would happen, via US Airways and United Airlines.
And today, almost one year later, I had the honor of personally
presenting a framed photo set of the Helmet and the Students to Carole
at the Reagan National Airport in Washington DC. The only other set
hangs in Congressman Minnick's office.
It was a precious time today to meet a new friend and to thank her.
Though, I am here on other income-related business, this presentation
was a labor of love.
