It's an unappreciated long-forgotten film by Mark Rydell.
Simply called, "The Cowboys".
Yet, I've come to believe it is one of the finest films that veteran actor John Wayne ever starred in.
Beautifully shot, the script alone has some of the most memorable lines in screenwriting history.... as well as the single best photo-pic of The Duke ever captured (to the left).
John Wayne (Wil Anderson) to Bruce Dern (Long Hair): "You look like the vermin-ridden son of a bitch you are."
Bruce Dern to The Duke: "I'm gonna need your gun - now bring it over to me." John Wayne does not move.
And everyone watches, especially the dozen or so boys.
Then, John Wayne says nothing more.
And Bruce Dern walks over and picks up the pistol from the ground instead.
John Wayne to Bruce Dern: "Alright, we've seen what you can do to a boy...now let's see what you can do to a man. On my worst day I could beat the hell out of you."
And John Wayne goes about beating the hell out of an evil Bruce Dern.
That's what a man teaches boys to do.

I Enjoy it. And then weird that you had better join to the blog post - I just had drunken noodles for the first time this week and I'm hunting for a good recipe. You'll have to have us acknowledge if it turns out.
