Chuck Colson passed away recently.
He once made this statement: "I wasn't going to do this (help inmates) my whole career. After I left prison I was going to help, but I wasn't going to do this for the rest of my life."
And yet God got a hold of him. Colson's brokenness and humility allowed him to be held by the Lord, doing "this work" for the rest of his life.
I think of him often as I think about the men and women with whom others and I had the honor of standing alongside, for a brief period of years here in Idaho. When we exited, others came after our efforts - for God didn't need us to take the lead. He didn't need me or the team we had assembled. In the end, Colson knew clearly that He didn't need him.
He wanted him, God just didn't need Chuck... or you or me.... to love the unlovely. To care for the uncared-for. God was already doing that. The Lord just invites folks along, if they want to go...
I watched this brief video and it touched me deeply.
The harvest continues to be ready for its laborers. (Chuck Colson continues to see the need - only now from the other side of eternity.)
What do we see?
What is my responsibility?
What is yours?
