Born on the 4th of July?

35 years ago today, I stood by the sea of the east coast, arm around my girl, looking into her eyes - and I asked her to marry me.

The fireworks were there in the background, the sea spray lightly misting, the look of sweet surprise in Susan's eyes - all combined to etch an image of wonderment in my memory.

And today, on the west coast, I slip my arm around my bride, look into her eyes and still see the wonderment and surprise of life... and she sees those things in mine.

I am thankful that my engagement/marriage was born so many years ago on the 4th of July!
