Four years ago, Ron Howard produced a clever ad in favor of Candidate Obama. In it he portrayed some of his TV characters - all of who were in support of then-Senator Obama. It attracted millions of views. (Apparently for 2012, the video's been pulled from you Tube. Hmm..)
So what do we have this election, instead?
Well, Samuel L. Jackson stars in a 4+ minute video on the Internet that has (to this hour) attracted 350,000 views. I viewed it on Facebook and deliberated putting it on this blog for you to view.
I decided not to. Here's why:
Throughout the video the script is inflammatory, base and uses foul language in a way that is unnecessary - even to the point of using a little 8 year-old girl saying "Wake the F- Up"
What a comparison of two political ads.
Regardless of who you support, the video is just simply course and rude.
The fact that a LOT of production value was put into it and actors got paid to do it, I wonder how the Obama Campaign will ignore the backlash. Reaction moves quickly...
But moving things quickly and having things that resonate with people are two different things. Bad things move quickly on the Internet, too.
Social media isn't broadcast television. Putting it on does not translate to having people watch it.
And ultimately, no parent likes an ad with a 3rd grader yelling "Wake the F- Up".
Maybe the young single creatives (with no kids) who dreamed it up, should take their own advice that's found in the ad.

PS: I did not link to the ad. It's that bad....
