When labeled a "fool" (by folks who did not REALLY know him), for leaving the comforts of America and going to South America to share the good news of Jesus' life, death and resurrection, Jim Elliot penned this to his wife: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."
The book he followed puts it this way: "But whatever was to my profit, I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish that I might gain Christ," (Philippians 3:7-8)
Jim Elliot was killed by the Auca Indians on January 8th, 1956. He is alive forever and... he still is no fool.
Neither were the men who died with him.
