As important as tonight's results will be I thought I'd put the results in perspective.
A century ago tonight America decided against electing Teddy Roosevelt AND the incumbent William Howard Taft.
Woodrow Wilson became President.
My state elected "The Lion of the Senate"(and Idaho), William Borah. Progressivism was the beau-ideal philosophy of the time. Propositions were allowed to be used in newly received states into the Union.
When the votes were counted, America accepted Wilson, in a squeaker. Some people moaned and cried.
And tho many died in WWI, America survived.
It survived Wilson, TR, Taft, WWI and Borah.
I stood next to his gravestone late this afternoon to remember that fact.
America is more than these historical figures. It is alive TODAY.
And so it shall be, tomorrow.
