Almost everyone (if they're honest with themselves), sees in their mind's eye the ping pong balls of destiny with numbers in their favor descend the tube and land on the thin curved ledge of fortune.
The Powerball's ledge, that is....
And each number cries out their name.
Today, one half billion dollars will be available for chance's calling card - for a person (or group of people) to FINALLY admit that they really love mathematics and numbers! (Or at least they're telling themselves that tonight!)
Each dollar will have George Washington's face on it. Each lottery story will have an individual's story behind it. Most of those stories will be tales of tough times. Because those who have it, seldom play games of chance. At least not with odds like these...
In a supreme irony of our economic hard times (or maybe because of the hard times) fabuolus wealth will be unveiled and presented to someone in America tonight - all because of chance or, as some would say, destiny.
Quite frankly, there are some wonderful stories of people who have done well with their winnings.
May the destiny of tonight's winner be one that surrounds someone very special with many George Washingtons of their own.
Den

I don't give a fig about the lottery; I already won the one that matters: being born. But I do care about mathematics and numbers, and I note that whatever # of GWs are supposedly up for grabs are fewer than advertised. There ought to be a law, eh?
That prize will be sharply reduced by taxes, and by a major accounting sleight of hand if you want a lump sum delivered. It's only a "half billion" (or whatever) if you ignore taxes, and the time value of money for the next umpteen years they'll take to pay out the supposed "face value."
