I had an interesting talk with a friend this morning who asked me to consider Coaching her husband.
She knows I am writing books, too.
I told her I'd be open to it. He's to call me, if he wants Personal Coaching. We'll see if he calls... my guess is he will.
The exchange got me thinking, though, of how I have Coached several business clients over the course of the decade-plus since I left working in association with Focus on the Family. And in the last analysis, many of these business folks made money, saw their businesses get healthier, etc. But to what end personally, did the business Coaching help them?
Though their pocketbook fattened, my belief is that it had very little impact on their own personal lives.
Pretty vulnerable, huh?
Indirectly, during this time when I led the team of folks who helped ex-addicts and ex-inmates for four years, I was a far better personal coach than I was a businessman. My passion was in helping people increase their strength over obstacles. Not bottom lines. I suppose that's obvious, as the half-way house firm I headed eventually closed down.
These last few years have been spent working with Hollywood Larry, assembling a good group of people to be ready and available, should funding happen on some of our 84Pictures.com projects. My job has been and will continue to be to Coach these folks.
So, strip ANY business away and all we have left is people.
People who want their personal lives "Coached up", as former BSU Head Football Coach Skip Hall often says.
I'm thankful for my friend's call today re Personal Coaching. May it help her husband. May it help you, if you need it.
